LOSTWITHIEL FESTIVAL 2009

Lostwithiel is Cornwall’s hidden treasure, nestling in the Fowey River valley about 6 miles east of the Eden Project and 5 miles north of Fowey. We’re overlooked by the 12th century Restormel Castle and surrounded by beautiful countryside with the river meandering through the centre of the town.

Lostwithiel is an ideal base for taking a holiday in Cornwall. The town has a wide range of accommodation. There are two hotels, numerous Bed and Breakfast establishments, and several self catering holiday cottages including the best farm cottages in the south west, there’s also a great Golf and Country Club Hotel. During the day you will be ideally situated for exploring the Eden Project or Lanhydrock House, the North and South coasts are in easy reach, or why not venture further afield to places such as, St Ives, Falmouth or Penzance, which are only an 1 hour drive away.

Antique shops, regular fairs and auctions have made Lostwithiel the antiques capital of Cornwall. Now, with a choice of recently opened lifestyle shops, award winning restaurants, tea rooms, pubs and produce market, the town is attracting a growing number of new visitors. With good road and rail links as well as ample free parking, visiting couldn’t be easier.

Bulb Mania at the Eden Project – an astonishing show daffodils, tulips and other springtime delights coming to bloom in March, April and May. Come in March for the daffodils, April for the tulips and May for the lilies.
What’s best in April? in April, a river of grape hyacinth flows into life as Bulb Mania comes to a crescendo. Red Riding Hood is among the early tulips. End of April/May: The tulips are at their finest with every type represented. The scented orange variety Ballerina and pink Barcelona are among Eden’s sensual head-turners. Bulb Mania has become a must-see event right up alongside the magnolias, rhododendrons and camellias of the great woodland gardens such as Heligan, Trengwainton and Trebah.
